Special Reports — Long-Form Investigations and Research Dossiers

Special Reports are the long-form investigative and analytical pieces that go beyond daily intelligence briefings. Each report represents weeks of primary-source research, structured open-source intelligence collection, and editorial review under the same NATO STANAG 2022 reliability and accuracy framework that governs ISC's daily output. Reports run from 4,000 words upward and are aimed at decision-makers, programme directors, and policy units who need depth and provenance, not headlines.

The category covers four kinds of long-form work. First, structured research dossiers on specific procurement relationships, programmes, or industrial actors — for example the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation's procurement relationship with Elbit Systems, or the AUKUS Pillar II industrial governance question. Second, technical deep dives on emerging WOME themes (REACH-driven primer substitution, Insensitive Munitions roadmap, energetics manufacturing-base resilience). Third, network-mapping investigations across politics, civil service, and defence-policy ecosystems. Fourth, multi-month thematic investigations that synthesise across the procurement, industrial, operational, and regulatory layers.

Recurring methodological commitments distinguish these pieces from defence-press analysis. Every claim is sourced and rated; every framework is cited at the level of specific document and section; every interpretive claim is explicitly distinguished from established fact; data gaps are listed openly; and AI-assistance is disclosed as a matter of editorial policy. Each report ships with a structured References section and source-evaluation rubric.

ISC offers bespoke research and reporting on procurement relationships, industrial-base questions, regulatory transitions, or policy questions that require deeper evidentiary work than internal teams have capacity to deliver. Reports can be open or commissioned-confidential.

What Are Special Reports?

Special Reports are long-form investigative and analytical pieces that go beyond daily intelligence briefings. Each report represents weeks of primary-source research, cross-referencing, and technical analysis. They cover emerging trends in NATO procurement, defence industrial capacity, policy shifts, conflict analysis, and regulatory frameworks. Every report is sourced from open-source material, evaluated to NATO STANAG 2022 reliability standards, and disclosed as AI-assisted analysis.
